Airline Mission
The Flying Springbok Virtual Airline is based in South Africa at OR Tambo Intl Airport (FAOR)
We serve Southern Africa with aircraft ranging from a C172 to a B747SP. We cater for both IFR and VFR Flights and in some instances, we serve remote dust strips as well where you won`t have any Nav-aids to guide you, so how good is your dead reckoning and Bush Flying skills ?
It is our goal to have flights to as many airports as possible in Southern Africa. We currently have around 970 flight routes, and counting, for you to choose from. Should there not be flights available to your favorite airport, simple send a message to the CEO to create one. Although the actual routes between your Dept and Arv airports are at the Pilot`s discretion, it is still required that you must fly in active airways with any IFR flight. Of course, not necessary when flying VFR. You will notice that some routes are aircraft specific and that is because there are connecting flights with that aircraft to additional airports where you would not normally land with a larger aircraft. We do fly to all the main airports throughout Southern Africa with any size jet aircraft of your choice, provided of course the runway is long enough for you to land safety. And take off again. Routes are constantly updated that will include countries further North...
Our rules are simple:
1. Max landing rate - 500fpm; This is always a difficult one and it may be waivered on a flight due to circumstances (eg; bad weather on short finals, wind sheer) - Do place an explanation in flight report.
2. Landing rates above 500fpm will be rejected or you may re-fly the route..
3. You must have a Dept and Arv Airport in your flightplan for it to be valid.
4. Aircraft substitution is open for discussion.
5. Don`t crash or run out of fuel.
6. Pilot Handbook will be mailed to Pilots
7. First Flight within 14 days of joining
8. 1 flight/30day calendar month
9. You must take off from the last Airport you landed at, don`t leave aircraft stranded.
Although not mandatory, we do encourage flying on the Vatsim and/or IVAO networks - Callsign: SPRINGBOK and the Flight Number
Most importantly, have fun!!!
P.S. - Congrats to our Springboks for winning the Rugby World Cup for a record 4th time!! :)
